Who will be my supervisor?
While you are in the yearlong program either of the supervisors may be your
supervisor. If you are taking a single unit of CPE your supervisor will be identified at
the time of your acceptance into the CPE program.

How well are chaplains accepted in the Medical Center?
CPE has been at UCSF since 1961. It is well integrated in the overall care of the
patients. UCSF is also a teaching hospital, so it is very common to have people in
training participating in the care of the patients. Chaplains are counted upon to be
actively involved in the care of the patients.

What kinds of patients are at UCSF Medical Center?
There is a full range of medical services and specialties in the hospital. Patients come
from all over the world for medical care. There is a great diversity of socio-economic,
ethnic, and religious background represented in both the patients and the staff. Cutting
edge medical procedures are performed here, therefore people come here with high
hopes and expectations about what is possible.

How many people are typically in the CPE program?
The average group size is approximately ten to twelve people. As much as it is possible,
the group is made up of people from diverse backgrounds and cultures. San Francisco
draws a richly diverse group of people. That diversity often is reflected in the CPE
program.
